Dental Fillings
Fillings are a type of dental restoration used to restore damaged or decayed teeth. If the decay or damage is not extensive enough to require a dental crown, your knowledgeable dentist may recommend a filling. The filling repairs the damaged portion of the tooth, restoring the tooth’s function and health. There are two commonly used types of dental fillings:
- Amalgam fillings: This type of filling is created from silver amalgam; they are also known as silver or metal fillings.
- Composite fillings: This type of dental fillings is created using composite resin, which is a tooth-colored material. Composite fillings are also known as white or tooth-colored fillings.
There are benefits to each type of dental filling. Our doctors will be happy to consult with you on which type of filling best meets your needs.
To place the filling, we will first remove the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth, then fill in the tooth with the chosen filling material. He will carefully shape and polish the filling to fit your smile comfortably and aesthetically. Dental fillings are typically placed in just one pleasant visit to our dental office.
